Private departures only — never in a group

The hot air balloon ride in Marrakech costs from €190 per person for the classic sunrise flight — with private riad transfers, tea at the launch site, around one hour in the air, a Berber breakfast after landing and the pilot-signed flight certificate all included. Two upgrades exist and are priced plainly: the Private formula at €600 per person puts the basket entirely to yourselves, and the Royal at €1,200 stages the most exclusive morning we run. The mechanics are part of the magic: pickup before dawn (the exact hour shifts with the sunrise and is confirmed the evening before), the envelope inflating as the sky lightens, then roughly an hour drifting over palm groves and earth-coloured villages with the Atlas on the horizon. Flying is always the pilot’s call — if wind grounds the balloon, you move to the next morning or cancel at no charge.

Marrakech from a thousand feet, in the quietest vehicle ever invented. You lift off at first light from the launch field outside the city, and for around an hour the Atlas foothills, the palm groves and the earth-coloured villages slide underneath you while the sun climbs over the mountains. No engine, no road, no sound but the burner — ballooning is the slow, ceremonial way to see how green, how empty and how vast the country around Marrakech really is.

The morning has a ritual to it. Pickup at your riad before dawn — mint tea or coffee at the launch site while the envelope inflates, a short briefing from the pilot, then the basket. After landing, wherever the wind has taken you, the crew sets a Berber breakfast in the open — msemen, honey, olives, eggs — and you drive back to Marrakech with a flight certificate signed by your pilot and the morning already worth the trip.

As with everything we run, your transfers are private — your own driver from your riad and back, on your schedule, never a shuttle round half the hotels of Gueliz. Three ways to fly: the classic flight in a shared basket at €190 per person; the private flight, where the basket belongs to your party alone, at €600 per person; and the Royal flight — our most exclusive sunrise, built around your occasion, a proposal, an anniversary, a morning the two of you keep — at €1,200 per person. Tell us which morning you want and we arrange it.

Flights run year-round, wind permitting — winter mornings are the crispest and clearest. The whole experience takes about half a day: airborne around sunrise, back at your riad by mid-morning with the rest of Marrakech still ahead of you.

When is the best time for a hot air balloon ride in Marrakech? The flights run all year, but the morning sky decides the quality. October to April gives the crispest, clearest air and the sharpest Atlas views — winter mornings are cold on the ground and worth a warm layer, but the light is the best of the year. May to September flies earlier to beat the heat, and the plain below turns gold. Whatever the month, the flight is at sunrise because that is when the air is calmest; a windy forecast moves you to the next morning rather than risking a rough ride.

Who is it for, and what should you wear? A sunrise balloon flight suits almost everyone — couples marking an occasion, families with older children, first-time flyers who are nervous of small planes but find the basket serenely steady. There is no age limit beyond a minimum height for children to see over the basket, and no special fitness needed; you stand for the hour of the flight. Dress in layers and closed shoes: it is cold before dawn and mild once the sun is up, and the burner above you is warm. Bring a camera — the one thing every flyer wishes they had held onto is the light over the Atlas as the sun breaks.

Is a Marrakech balloon ride worth it? It is the single most photographed morning of most Marrakech trips, and the only way to grasp how green the palm groves and how vast the plain really are from the air. Paired with the private transfers, the Berber breakfast and the signed certificate, it reads less like a tourist add-on and more like the morning people remember longest — which is why we build it into honeymoons, proposals and milestone trips as readily as we sell it on its own.

Questions travellers ask

How much does Marrakech Hot Air Balloon Ride | Sunrise Flight & Berber Breakfast cost?+

From €190/person, per person. The price includes private transfers from and to your marrakech riad or hotel, tea and coffee at the launch site, pilot briefing and around one hour of flight. You receive a written itemised quote before paying anything — no hidden fees.

How long is this tour and when does it depart?+

Sunrise · half day, departing on the dates you choose — there is no fixed schedule, because every departure is arranged for you alone.

Is this a group tour or private?+

Fully private: your own vehicle, driver and licensed guide, never seat-in-coach and never mixed with other travellers. The daily pace flexes around you.

How much is a hot air balloon ride in Marrakech?+

From €190 per person for the classic shared-basket sunrise flight — private transfers, about an hour aloft, Berber breakfast and the pilot-signed certificate included. The private basket runs €600 per person and the Royal formula €1,200. Pickup is before dawn; the exact hour follows the sunrise and is confirmed the evening before.

Is ballooning in Marrakech safe — and what if it's windy?+

Flights run with licensed pilots and flying is always the pilot's call: if the wind is wrong, the flight moves to the next morning or cancels at no charge — the one rule that protects every passenger. Mornings aloft are cool even in summer; bring a layer and flat shoes.

What time does a balloon flight start, and how long is the whole morning?+

Lift-off is at first light, so pickup runs before dawn — roughly a half-day door to door: transfer, tea while the envelope inflates, the pilot's briefing, about an hour in the air over the palm groves with the Atlas on the horizon, then the open-air Berber breakfast at the landing site before the drive back.

What should I wear for a balloon flight?+

Layers and flat closed shoes: mornings aloft are cool even in summer, the landing field is farmland, and the basket is boarded by stepping over the side. Hats stay in the bag during the burner's blasts; cameras are welcome and the light is the whole point.
