Four imperial cities, Roman Volubilis and a millennium of medinas.

Morocco's great historical sites — Fes el-Bali, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, Aït Ben Haddou, Meknes and the imperial capitals — are best joined in one private route: our history circuits run from €1050 per person for 7 days, always private with your own licensed guide, never in a group.

A country-sized museum, still open for business

Morocco keeps its history in daily use: students still study at Al-Qarawiyyin in Fes, founded in 859; families still live inside the walls of Aït Ben Haddou; the mosaics of Roman Volubilis still face the same olive hills. Our heritage circuits string the four imperial cities, the great UNESCO sites and the medinas into routes that read like a timeline you can walk.

History in daily use

Nothing is roped off — families still live in the ksar, artisans still work the medina.

A walkable timeline

Rome at Volubilis, the Idrissids at Fes, the Saadians at Marrakech — one road, twelve centuries.

Licensed local guides

A medina without a guide is a maze; with one it becomes a library.

Landscape between chapters

Every second city day pairs with a pass, a gorge or a coastline to keep both fresh.

The sites that anchor a route

History here is not roped off. With a licensed local guide, a morning in the Fes medina moves from a 9th-century university to a working tannery to artisans doing what their great-grandfathers did — and the afternoon can still end on a rooftop over mint tea.

Historical sites in Morocco

On the road

  • Walk the medieval medina of Fes — the world's largest car-free city
  • Stand in the forum of Volubilis among 2,000-year-old mosaics
  • Climb Aït Ben Haddou for the golden hour above the river
  • Compare the gates of Meknes with the palaces of Marrakech
  • Trace Jewish Morocco through the mellahs of Fes and Essaouira

When to go

Heritage routes work all year — the medinas are at their best in winter light, and spring and autumn make the site walks effortless. Summer visits simply start earlier and pause at midday, as Moroccans always have.

Travel tips

History questions, answered

Which historical sites should I not miss in Morocco?

Fes el-Bali — the world's largest living medieval medina — Volubilis' Roman mosaics, the kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou, Meknes' monumental gates and the Saadian tombs and Bahia Palace in Marrakech. Our 7-day imperial circuit joins them in one line without backtracking.

Are the tours guided, and in what language?

Yes — every departure is private with a licensed guide (English and French as standard; other languages on request). No groups: the pace in a medina or a ruin is yours, and questions never wait their turn.

How many days do I need for the imperial cities?

Seven days covers Rabat, Meknes, Volubilis, Fes and Marrakech honestly, with a licensed guide in each. Ten days adds the Sahara; fifteen lets the same route breathe with second nights in Fes and Marrakech.

Is Volubilis worth the detour?

Yes — it is the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco, a short climb from Meknes, with mosaics still in the floors of the houses they decorated. We pair it with Moulay Idriss, the holy town on the hill beside it.

What is special about Morocco's Jewish heritage routes?

Morocco holds one of the deepest Jewish histories in the Muslim world: the mellahs of Fes and Marrakech, restored synagogues, the Casablanca Museum of Moroccan Judaism — the only one of its kind in the Arab world. Our 15–16-day heritage tours are built around them.
