The sequence is the point: you reach the camp as the light turns, watch the sun drop behind the Atlas with a glass of mint tea, then sit to a long Moroccan dinner as the fire pits and lanterns take over and the music begins — Gnaoua rhythms, drummers, the desert night doing the staging. It is Marrakech’s classic evening out, done privately: your own transfer times, no coach convoy, and the show at the camp rather than a city stage. Back at your riad by late evening. Forty minutes from Marrakech, the Agafay desert turns on its evening act: a camp dinner under the open sky with live music, Gnaoua rhythms, fire and dance — the Moroccan night out that no restaurant in the medina can stage. From €105 per person, and as with everything we run, your transfers and your table are private — never a group bench.
The evening’s shape: pickup as the light softens, the drive out as the Atlas silhouettes, mint tea on arrival, then a full Moroccan dinner — salads, tagine or mechoui, dessert and tea — while the show unfolds around the fire. The drummers, the dancers and the desert dark do the rest; you are back in Marrakech before it feels late.
Dress with a warm layer (desert evenings cool fast, even in summer), bring an appetite, and tell us any dietary needs when booking — the camp kitchens handle vegetarian tables comfortably. Couples celebrating something should say so: the fire has a way of noticing.

What is the Agafay desert, exactly?+
A rolling stone desert of pale, moon-like hills half an hour south-west of Marrakech — no great sand dunes, but genuine desert scenery with the snow line of the High Atlas as its backdrop. It has become the city's favourite evening escape, and ours: sunset here costs forty minutes, not four hundred kilometres.
Agafay or the Sahara — which should I choose?+
Different products for different budgets of time. The Sahara (Erg Chebbi or Zagora) is the real sand sea and needs two to four days; the Agafay delivers a desert evening — camel ride, camp dinner, sunset over stone hills — inside a single Marrakech day. Many travellers sensibly do both.
What can I do in the Agafay?+
Sunset camel rides, quad-biking sessions, camp dinners under lanterns with music, overnight stays at luxury camps, and increasingly yoga and stargazing evenings. Our Agafay excursions run daily from Marrakech with riad pickup included.
Can I sleep in the Agafay?+
