Seven days that begin on a beach and end in the Red City — the widest arc any one-week route of ours can draw. Asilah’s white ramparts and the Caves of Hercules open it; blue Chefchaouen and medieval Fes anchor the middle; a camel trek into the Erg Chebbi crowns it; and the Dades-to-Marrakech kasbah road brings it home. Atlantic light one morning, Sahara stars two nights later.
This is deliberately a moving panorama: a new bed most nights, a new landscape most days, and the country compressed into its greatest hits without ever feeling like a checklist — because every stop gets its right hour, not just its box ticked.
Private vehicle and driver-guide door to door; licensed guides in the medinas; ensuite camp in the erg.
Seven days from the Atlantic ramparts to the Sahara, from €1050 per person: Asilah’s painted medina, the Caves of Hercules and Tangier, blue Chefchaouen, then Fes and the long road to the Erg Chebbi dunes — camels at dusk, a camp night — before the Dades valley and the kasbah road to a guided finale in Marrakech.
No other week-long route of ours spans beach and dunes in the same trip: it is built for travellers who want to feel Morocco’s full range — Mediterranean light, mountain blue, desert silence — and accept faster pacing to get it. Every night is in a different place; that is the deal.
It works best October to April, when both coast and desert are kind. Private car, driver and city guides throughout, on your dates — WhatsApp us and the day-by-day quote comes back within the hour.
Who this tour is for: a week with both sand and sea — Fes, a Sahara camp night and the coast to finish. Swap the beach for mountain trails with the Marrakech Desert & Atlas Hiking Tour – 7 Days; skip the desert entirely and the Morocco Imperial Cities Tour – 7 Days gives the week to the capitals.
Most Morocco weeks open with an airport and a motorway; this one opens with art. Asilah’s ramparts — repainted by muralists every year — and the caves of Hercules set a visual key that holds through Chefchaouen’s blue, Fes’s mosaic workshops and a luxury camp in the dunes (a 4×4 can stand in for the camel on request). Built for photographers and the visually greedy: the camera never waits past day one.

Open a day to see the detail: transport, accommodation, meals and activity time.
From Casablanca's arrivals hall straight up the Atlantic coast to Asilah — the artists' town whose ocean ramparts and commissioned murals make it Morocco's gentlest first impression. An afternoon of white lanes and sea air, dinner near the bastion, waves for a soundtrack.

North to the strait's dramatic punctuation: Cape Spartel, where Atlantic meets Mediterranean under a lighthouse, and the Caves of Hercules with their Africa-shaped window to the sea. A Tangier lunch above the port, then the Rif road south — Chefchaouen receives you at the blue hour, which is precisely the point.

The blue city in the morning — lanes at full saturation, kasbah square, a rooftop coffee — then the mountain road south through Ouazzane's olives to Fes. Arrival in the late afternoon leaves time for a first guided taste of the medina edge before dinner inside the walls.

The great crossing, compressed and spectacular: the Middle Atlas cedars, the Midelt plain, the Ziz gorges pouring palms toward the desert. Merzouga by late afternoon — and then the ritual: camels at golden hour, the swaying procession into the Erg Chebbi, camp with lanterns, drums, and a sky that needs a wider lens.

Sunrise from the dune, then westward at desert pace: the Todra Gorge for the canyon-floor walk between 300-metre walls, and the Dades valley for kasbahs in every state from ruin to renovation. A kasbah-hotel night above the river, rock formations doing their sunset act.

The kasbah road's grand finale: Aït Ben Haddou at midday — guided through the UNESCO ksar to the granary and its enormous view — then the Tizi n'Tichka, mint tea at altitude, and the long descent into Marrakech's pink evening. Jemaa el-Fna makes the introductions.

A guided Marrakech morning — Bahia, Koutoubia, the souk arteries decoded — sized to your flight, then the airport hand-off. Seven days, from beach to desert to Red City: the whole compass in one continuous line.

A route for travellers who pack light and love motion: most nights change beds, by design. October–April is ideal; summer runs work with dawn desert pacing. Ferry arrivals can join at Tangier on day two.

South and east of the Atlas mountains. The named destinations, in order of distance from Marrakech: the Agafay stone desert 45 minutes away (no sand dunes), the Zagora dunes down the Draa valley at 360 km, Erg Chigaga beyond M'Hamid where the tarmac ends, and the great Erg Chebbi dune sea at Merzouga, 560 km out — the Sahara of the photographs.
Broadly, everything south and east of the Atlas watershed is arid or Saharan — roughly half the country by area. The photogenic sand seas are actually small pockets of that expanse: Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga are each a day's drive apart, islands of dunes in a vast landscape of stone, oases and kasbah valleys.
Layers, always: desert days can hit 30°C while nights drop near freezing outside summer. The working formula is light long sleeves and trousers for sun and camels, a warm fleece or jacket for the camp evening, closed shoes for sand and stones, sunglasses, and a scarf (a cheche) — bought in any souk for a few dirhams — for sun, wind and the photograph. Luggage stays in the vehicle; you carry a small overnight bag to the camp.
The honest ladder: the Agafay stone desert is 45 minutes away (no sand dunes, but real desert scenery); the first true Sahara dunes at Zagora are 360 km — about 6 hours over the Tizi n'Tichka; the great Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga are 560 km — 8 to 9 hours, which is why serious itineraries take 3–4 days. There is no Sahara 'day trip' from Marrakech worth the name — anyone selling one is selling Agafay.
