Private departures only — never in a group

On 2 August 2027, the longest total solar eclipse over land this century passes directly over northern Morocco — and Tangier sits almost on its centerline, with totality from 09:44 to 09:49 in the morning and the Sun dark for four minutes and fifty seconds. This 5-day private eclipse tour costs from €750 per person: four nights half-board (three in Tangier, one in a Chefchaouen medina guesthouse), your own vehicle and driver throughout, certified ISO 12312-2 eclipse glasses for every guest, and a pre-scouted viewing point on the centerline itself — visited together the day before, so eclipse morning holds no unknowns. Around the main event: Cap Spartel, the ramparts of Asilah, UNESCO Tétouan and the blue lanes of Chefchaouen, which stood inside the path of totality too. Eclipse accommodation in the north will sell out far ahead — the written quote comes back within an hour, no payment at that stage.

A total solar eclipse is the one natural event that no photograph has ever done justice. For four minutes and fifty seconds the Sun’s corona hangs silver in a dark morning sky, bright stars and planets come out, the horizon glows like sunset in every direction at once, and the temperature falls as if a door had opened. The 2 August 2027 eclipse is the longest over land in the 21st century, and of every place in its path from Spain to Egypt, northern Morocco offers one of the sunniest August skies along the line — with Tangier, uniquely, a real city almost exactly on the centerline.

The tour is built the way an eclipse trip must be: nothing left for that morning to decide. You sleep three nights in Tangier, see the viewing point with your own eyes the day before, and reach it early on eclipse day by private car — no coach timetable, no parking lottery. Certified viewing glasses are handed to every guest at the briefing. And because clouds answer to no one, your driver and an inland plan B are part of the design, not an extra.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Tangier — the city at the gate of the eclipse 3 stages

Your driver meets you at Tangier airport, port or hotel. The city that will host the century's longest totality over land deserves a proper look first: the kasbah on its cliff, the medina lanes down to the Petit Socco, and the Grand Socco where the old town meets the new. Late afternoon, we drive out to Cap Spartel, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic — the same sky you will watch go dark two mornings later.

Day 2 Asilah, the coast and the eclipse briefing 3 stages

A gentle day along the Atlantic: the white-and-blue ramparts of Asilah, its murals and sea bastion, with lunch over the water. On the way back we drive the exact route of tomorrow morning and stand on the viewing point itself — a pre-scouted spot on the centerline south of Tangier, chosen for open horizons and quick access. Evening briefing at the hotel: the minute-by-minute timeline, how to use the certified glasses, what to expect from your own eyes and a phone camera.

Day 3 ECLIPSE DAY — totality on the centerline (2 August 2027) 4 stages

Early departure beats any traffic to the viewing point. The partial phase begins around 08:40; the light turns strange, shadows sharpen, the temperature dips. At 09:44:47 local time the Sun goes out — four minutes and fifty seconds of totality, the corona visible to the naked eye, planets appearing in a morning sky, the horizon glowing like a 360-degree sunset. The Sun stands a comfortable 38 degrees high. When the diamond ring returns, breakfast is waiting — a long celebration brunch, then a free afternoon in Tangier to let it sink in.

Day 4 Tétouan and the blue city of Chefchaouen 3 stages

The day after, the north keeps giving: Tétouan's UNESCO-listed medina — the most Andalusian in Morocco — then the climb into the Rif to Chefchaouen, which itself stood inside yesterday's path of totality. The blue lanes, Plaza Uta el-Hammam and the kasbah fill the afternoon; at dusk, the short walk to the Spanish Mosque pays the best view in the north — the whole blue city lighting up below.

Day 5 Return to Tangier — or deeper into Morocco 2 stages

After a slow Chefchaouen morning, we return you to Tangier for your ferry or flight — about 2.5 hours through the Rif. Travellers with more time rarely stop here: Fes lies a day south through Volubilis and Meknes, and the Sahara a stage beyond that. Tell us your dates and the written plan grows to match.

Good to know

The timings are fixed by the sky: in Tangier the partial phase begins around 08:40, totality runs 09:44:47–09:49:38 local time (4 min 50 s), and the Sun stands about 38° high — a comfortable morning eclipse. Never look at the Sun without certified glasses except during totality itself; we brief this properly the evening before. August 2027 accommodation in northern Morocco will be the most sought-after in the country's history — book as far ahead as you possibly can. Weather holds the only veto: northern Morocco's August skies are among the most reliable on the whole eclipse path, and your private car gives a same-morning inland plan B that coach groups cannot match. The tour pairs naturally with the Tarifa ferry from Spain, and extends south to Fes or the Sahara on request.
