Eight days is the quiet upgrade: everything the classic week delivers, plus the one thing it lacks — margin. Here is how we spend the extra day, and why it changes the whole trip.
The route
Day 1 — Marrakech: arrive, first souks at dusk. Day 2 — Marrakech guided: palaces, madrasa, gardens. Day 3 — over the Tichka to Aït Ben Haddou for the golden hour, night in kasbah country. Day 4 — Todra Gorge to Merzouga: camels into the Erg Chebbi, camp under the stars. Day 5 — desert day: dawn on the dunes, 4×4 tracks, Khamlia’s gnawa music, a second desert night. Day 6 — the return road west, Dades valley stop, sleep in Ouarzazate. Day 7 — back to Marrakech, afternoon free (hammam earns its keep here). Day 8 — departure, or swap in an Essaouira finale.

The difference the eighth day makes
The second desert night. One night in the Sahara is a postcard; two is an experience — the silence only arrives once the novelty settles. Every guest who has taken this version names day 5 as the trip’s heart.
Variants that work
Start from Fes instead (mirror route), trade the second desert night for Essaouira’s sea air, or add Chefchaouen with ten days total. All are real circuits we run — browse the collection or sketch yours on plan your journey. Packing, budgets and desert practicalities: the Travel FAQ has chapters for each.

She specialises in loops that avoid backtracking, coast-to-desert combinations, and the unglamorous logistics (fuel stops, prayer-time closures, market days) that make a route actually flow.
