Private departures only — never in a group

This 7-day Morocco tour from Casablanca costs from €1050 per person, fully private — your own vehicle, driver-guide and licensed city guides, six hotel and riad nights half-board, plus a night at a Sahara desert camp — never in a group. The geometry does the work: land at Casablanca, Morocco’s main intercontinental gateway, and exit from Marrakech seven days later having covered Volubilis, Meknes, a full guided day in the Fes medina, the Middle Atlas crossing to the Erg Chebbi dunes with a sunset camel ride, then the oasis road, Aït Ben Haddou and the Tizi n’Tichka pass — no kilometre driven twice. It is the one-week grand tour for travellers whose flights were booked before their itinerary. Departures are private on your dates; the day-by-day quote, hotels named, arrives on WhatsApp within the hour, with nothing to pay at that stage.

Seven days, coast to coast the imperial way — this is the route we would draw for a first-time visitor with exactly one week. Casablanca’s ocean-front mosque, Roman Volubilis and imperial Meknes on the road to Fes, a full guided day in the world’s oldest medina, the great crossing to the Erg Chebbi for a Sahara camp night, and the kasbah road over the Atlas into Marrakech. Every headline, one continuous line, no repetition.

The rhythm alternates deliberately: a city day, a road day, a desert night, a city again. The two long drives — Fes to the dunes, the dunes to Marrakech — are the most beautiful roads in the country, broken by the Ziz palm gorges, the Todra canyon and Aït Ben Haddou. You arrive in each place at the hour it looks its best, because that is the entire point of travelling privately.

Your vehicle, your driver-guide, licensed local guides in Fes and Marrakech, and an ensuite desert camp — the full standard, in one week.

Casablanca to Marrakech in seven days with both the imperial cities and the Sahara, from €1050 per person: first light on the Hassan II Mosque, Volubilis and Meknes to Fes, a full day in the medieval medina, then the Middle Atlas to the dunes, the desert towns and oases to Ouarzazate, and Aït Ben Haddou before the Tichka pass into Marrakech.

This is the tightest route that refuses to choose between Morocco’s two headline experiences. The price of that completeness is honest: two long driving days across the Atlas. The reward is that in one week you have stood in Roman ruins, a twelve-hundred-year-old medina, and the Sahara at sunset.

Travellers with nine days should see the 9-day version, which adds Chefchaouen and a second Marrakech day. Private on your dates — WhatsApp us and the day-by-day quote comes back within the hour.

Who this tour is for: first-timers landing at Casablanca with exactly one week who refuse to choose between capitals and dunes. Without the desert night, the Classic Morocco Itinerary – 7 Days is gentler on the road hours; with three more days, Morocco Tour 10 Days closes the full loop with Chefchaouen.

The geometry does the work: land at Casablanca — Morocco’s main intercontinental gateway — and exit from Marrakech seven days later with Volubilis, Meknes, a guided Fes day, the dunes and the kasbah road behind you, no kilometre driven twice. It is the one-week grand tour for travellers whose flights were chosen before their itinerary, and it wastes neither.

Itinerary

Day 1 Casablanca, first light on the Atlantic 1 stages

Your driver waits at Casablanca airport with a name sign. First act: the Hassan II Mosque, whose minaret is the tallest religious structure in Africa — the guided visit takes you inside the 25,000-capacity prayer hall, over glass panels with the Atlantic moving underneath, one of the very few Moroccan mosques open to non-Muslim visitors. The rest of the day settles you in: the Corniche, a seafood dinner, an ocean-side night before the road east.

Day 2 Volubilis and Meknes to Fes 4 stages

A road day built of detours that outrank most destinations. Volubilis first: the best-preserved Roman city in Morocco, its triumphal arch and floor mosaics open to the sky on a hill of olives — allow a slow guided hour. Then a viewpoint stop for whitewashed Moulay Idriss, the country's holiest town, and imperial Meknes for Bab Mansour, the most beautiful gate in the kingdom. Fes arrives by late afternoon; your riad hides inside the old walls, minutes from tomorrow's labyrinth.

Day 3 The medieval medina of Fes 1 stages

Fes el-Bali deserves a whole day and gets one — with a licensed local guide, because this medina rewards knowledge more than any place in Morocco. Bab Boujeloud's blue tiles, the carved cedar of the Bou Inania madrasa, a doorway glimpse of Al-Qarawiyyin (founded 859, often cited as the world's oldest university), the coppersmiths' square, and the Chouara tannery from a leather terrace, mint sprig in hand against the smell. The evening is yours — the rooftops at dusk, when the swallows take over, are the memory that stays.

Day 4 Across the Middle Atlas to the dunes 4 stages

The great crossing south, and the most scenery-per-kilometre in Morocco: the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas with Barbary macaques by the road near Azrou, the mining town of Midelt under the Ayachi massif, then the Ziz gorges and their staggering palm ribbon down to the desert's edge. At Merzouga the camels are waiting for golden hour — an hour's swaying ride into the Erg Chebbi to your ensuite camp: dinner under lanterns, drums at the fire, and the deepest sky you have ever slept under.

Day 5 Desert towns and oases to Ouarzazate 3 stages

Sunrise from a dune crest, breakfast at camp, and the desert lets you go slowly: the oasis towns and fossil workshops around Erfoud, then Tinghir and the Todra Gorge, where a canyon-floor walk between 300-metre walls stretches the legs perfectly. The Dades valley's kasbahs escort you west to Ouarzazate — 'the door of the desert' and Africa's film capital — for the night.

Day 6 Aït Ben Haddou, then over the Tichka 4 stages

Aït Ben Haddou opens the day the way it should be seen: early, quiet, golden. A guided walk climbs the UNESCO ksar's earthen lanes to the granary at the top, with the river oasis and the whole pre-Sahara spread below — you will recognise it from more films than you can name. Then the Tizi n'Tichka pass, mint tea at the viewpoints, and the descent into the pink haze of Marrakech. Evening free: Jemaa el-Fna is ten minutes away and best at dusk.

Day 7 Marrakech and departure 1 stages

A guided morning unlocks the Red City: the Bahia Palace's painted ceilings, the Koutoubia gardens, the souk labyrinth taken with someone who knows which lane leads where — and time to circle back to whatever caught your eye. Depending on your flight, a last mint tea on a rooftop, then the private transfer to Marrakech airport. Seven days, the whole arc, no minute wasted.

Good to know

One week is the honest minimum for the cities plus the real Sahara: expect two long driving days (6–7 h) spent on the country's two most beautiful roads. The route runs Casablanca→Marrakech; it reverses perfectly if your flights prefer. Prime months are March–May and September–November; winter is crisp and lovely with a warm layer for the desert night.

Questions travellers ask

How much does 7-Day Morocco Tour from Casablanca: Imperial Cities & Sahara cost?+

From €1050 per person, per person. The price includes private air-conditioned 4×4 or minivan with english/french-speaking driver-guide — 7 days, pickup at casablanca airport or your hotel, night 1: casablanca hotel — half-board. You receive a written itemised quote before paying anything — no hidden fees.

How long is this tour and when does it depart?+

7 Days, departing on the dates you choose — there is no fixed schedule, because every departure is arranged for you alone.

Is this a group tour or private?+

Fully private: your own vehicle, driver and licensed guide, never seat-in-coach and never mixed with other travellers. The daily pace flexes around you.

Where is the desert in Morocco?+

South and east of the Atlas mountains. The named destinations, in order of distance from Marrakech: the Agafay stone desert 45 minutes away (no sand dunes), the Zagora dunes down the Draa valley at 360 km, Erg Chigaga beyond M'Hamid where the tarmac ends, and the great Erg Chebbi dune sea at Merzouga, 560 km out — the Sahara of the photographs.

How much of Morocco is desert?+

Broadly, everything south and east of the Atlas watershed is arid or Saharan — roughly half the country by area. The photogenic sand seas are actually small pockets of that expanse: Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga are each a day's drive apart, islands of dunes in a vast landscape of stone, oases and kasbah valleys.

What should I wear on a Morocco desert tour?+

Layers, always: desert days can hit 30°C while nights drop near freezing outside summer. The working formula is light long sleeves and trousers for sun and camels, a warm fleece or jacket for the camp evening, closed shoes for sand and stones, sunglasses, and a scarf (a cheche) — bought in any souk for a few dirhams — for sun, wind and the photograph. Luggage stays in the vehicle; you carry a small overnight bag to the camp.

How far is the Sahara desert from Marrakech?+

The honest ladder: the Agafay stone desert is 45 minutes away (no sand dunes, but real desert scenery); the first true Sahara dunes at Zagora are 360 km — about 6 hours over the Tizi n'Tichka; the great Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga are 560 km — 8 to 9 hours, which is why serious itineraries take 3–4 days. There is no Sahara 'day trip' from Marrakech worth the name — anyone selling one is selling Agafay.
