Three hours south of Agadir the tourist map fades and Morocco’s most cinematic coastline begins: Mirleft’s wild beaches, Legzira’s giant red arch, and Sidi Ifni — a blue-and-white Art Deco town that was Spanish until 1969 and still dreams in Andalusian. This is the day (better: overnight) for travellers who thought they had seen Morocco’s coast.
Legzira: the arch that survived
Legzira beach once had two monumental red-stone arches; the larger collapsed in 2016, and the survivor is reason enough for the drive — a cathedral doorway of rust-coloured rock over the Atlantic, at its best in late-afternoon light when the stone ignites. Walk to it at lower tide and check timings locally; the sea owns the schedule here.
Sidi Ifni: Spain’s leftover dream
The former Spanish enclave keeps its 1930s Art Deco civic buildings, a blue-and-white palette, and an unhurried fishing-port life that tourism has barely dented. Lunch above the beach, the old airfield square, sardines off the boats — it feels like a town remembered rather than visited.
Mirleft: the beaches between
Between the two, Mirleft scatters coves the surf crowd whispers about — Plage Sauvage, Imin Tourga — with cliff-top cafés and paragliders using the thermals. If a night fits your route, this is where the far south persuades you to slow down.
