Can you see Spain from Tangier?

Yes — on any clear day the Spanish coast stands on the horizon, just 14 km across the Strait of Gibraltar at the narrowest point. Cape Spartel and the kasbah terraces give the classic view of two continents trading colours; it is one of the few places on earth where that sentence is literal.

Can you do Tangier in a day?

From southern Spain, genuinely yes: the Tarifa ferry crosses in about an hour, and a day covers the kasbah, the medina, a strait-view café and Cape Spartel. As a stage of a Moroccan route, one night serves it better — our northern circuits use Tangier as the natural port of entry before Chefchaouen.

Does Tangier take euros — and does it have beaches?

Euros are widely accepted in tourist spots, but always at the seller's rate — paying in dirhams is simply cheaper, and ATMs are everywhere. And yes: the city beach runs right along the bay, with wilder Atlantic strands toward Cape Spartel and the famous Caves of Hercules.

Do tangerines really come from Tangier?

Yes — the word entered European languages in the 1800s for the sweet mandarins shipped out of Tangier's port. The fruit had travelled from Asia long before, but the name is pure Morocco: one of several words (alongside 'morocco' leather) the country gave to English.

The renovated Tangier rewards a full day and a night: the kasbah and its museum, the Grand Socco, the legend cafés of the medina and the strait views where two seas meet. Our northern circuits start there deliberately.

How does arriving by ferry from Spain work?

Fast ferries cross from Tarifa to Tangier Ville in about an hour (Algeciras serves Tanger Med, 40 minutes out of town). Passport control happens on board or at the port; your driver waits at the exit and Chefchaouen is 2h30 away.

Twenty minutes west of Tangier: the cape lighthouse marks where the Mediterranean and Atlantic officially meet, and the sea grotto below has a famous Africa-shaped opening to the ocean. An easy, breezy half-day with beaches alongside.
