How fit do I need to be?

Our walking days come in honest grades: valley and village walks (2–4 hours, anyone who walks at home), full hill days (4–5 hours with climbs), and the Toubkal summit (a serious two-day effort at altitude, moderate mountain fitness required). Tell us your real level and the route bends to it.

Who leads the treks?

Licensed Moroccan mountain guides — it is both the law in Toubkal National Park and the difference between walking through a landscape and understanding it. Mules carry the bags on multi-day treks; you carry a daypack.

Question 3

What gear do I need to bring?

Accepted Answer

Broken-in walking shoes or boots, layers (mountain weather turns fast), sun protection and a refillable bottle. For the Toubkal summit add warm gloves, a hat and a headtorch; in winter we arrange crampons and ice axes locally.

Can I combine a trek with the desert?

Yes — it is one of our signatures. The 5-day Toubkal & Sahara route summits North Africa's highest peak on day two and puts you on a dune crest by day four; several longer circuits weave shorter hikes between the desert and the coast.

What are the mountain villages and gîtes like?

Stone-and-earth villages terraced into the valleys, with walnut groves below and snow peaks above. Gîtes and mountain lodges are simple, warm and family-run — expect tagines by the stove, blankets, and the best sleep of the trip.

Is the Toubkal summit dangerous?

It is a non-technical trek in summer conditions, made safe by pacing, the refuge night and a guide who watches the weather and the group. Altitude is the real opponent — hydrate, walk slowly, and let the guide make the calls. In winter it becomes a proper alpine outing; we brief that honestly.

I don't want a big trek — can I still touch the mountains?

Easily. The Ourika and Amizmiz foothills give beautiful 2–4 hour walks with lunch at a family table, an hour and a half from Marrakech — several of our 7–10 day circuits include exactly that.
